Clothes from the Balkans and the Middle East

Thanks to a series of recent acquisitions, the Textile Collections were enriched by an important set of dresses from the Balkan countries (Albania, Montenegro, Greece) and various garments mainly for women from the Middle East and Central Asia. Closely linked to ancient models, both in terms of materials and techniques, and in terms of shape and tailoring, these garments are a fascinating instrument of intercultural dialogue, fostering the knowledge of artistic cultures and traditions different from the European. Among others, the set includes a Palestinian Thob with colourful embroidery, a Turkmen Chyrpy, an austere Yemeni dress, sumptuous gowns from Ottoman Turkey, and an Afghan gown, expression of the cultural mosaic which distinguishes this country, meeting place of different cultures
