Sala degli Arazzi

The Museums of Genoa showcase the city’s long-standing tradition of textile art collections and the city’s former engagement in the production of fabrics, damasks and velvets.
The custom of covering the walls of aristocratic houses with tapestries experienced remarkable and early popularity in Genoa. This was also due to the close economic ties the city had since the 14th century with the Flanders, one of the most important manufacturing regions specialised in this kind of production.
This is testified by the important textile collections on display in the museums of Genoa
