The Restoration

By Engineer Luciano Grossi Bianchi and Architect Roberto Melai, project designers:
While designing the restoration project, we had to face two challenges. On the one hand we had to reinforce and restore the rich architectural and decorative elements, which shape the fantasy reconstruction of a medieval castle; on the other the restoration project implied to convert a house museum into a modern public museum. As a consequence, this meant to evoke the unique atmosphere of the sumptuous residence of a turn-of-the century collector, reproducing the original taste of the time for neo-Gothic revival and exoticism according to which the castle was decorated; but at the same time the project had to include and properly arrange all those essential spaces of a modern museum: reception, staff and visitor services, library, bookshop and cafeteria, permanent and temporary exhibitions, educational centre, etc.

The project was designed by the temporary Professional Corporation consisting of the following members:
Engineer Luciano Grossi Bianchi - Coordinator
Architect Roberto Melai – Architectural design
Engineer Filippo Lagomaggiore – Structural design
Engineer Stefano Lagostena and Engineer Sandro Moranti – Plant design
Engineer Giuseppe De Naro and Surveyor Giuseppe Sgorbini – Supervision of works
The exhibition set-up of the new museum was designed by Professor Massimo Chiappetta.
