Western clothes

Raccolta:

The fashion trends in European countries are closely linked to the historical events, the artistic currents and changes in taste and lifestyle. The clothes of the Textile Collections at the Museums of Strada Nuova chronicle a very long period of the history of European civilisation and identity. It is an exciting journey between the 18th and the 20th centuries: from the precious men’s tailcoats, beautifully embroidered in rocaille style, through the tight-fitting corsets worn by the ladies of the Ancien Régime, to the Empire dresses of the early 19th century, symbol of the new revolutionary demands for freedom; from the big skirts with crinoline underneath from 1860s, to elegant women’s dresses in androgynous style, in vogue since 1920 as symbol of a radical change in the status of women and a reflection of artistic avant-garde.
