Illuminated Codes

The remarkable book heritage of the Cathedral has been almost completely dispersed over the centuries: among the works that have come to us there are the illuminated manuscripts displayed in the Diocesan Museum, that is liturgical books dating back mostly to the end of the fifteenth century in which the songs and antiphons are transcribed for the festivities of the Li-turgical Year. The melody of Gregorian chant provided for the square nota-tion, while the decoration was pinned on the initials, some watermarked in blue or red, others preciously illuminated with scenes related to the theme of the celebration.
