The female head reproduces that of the full-length marble sculpture entitled Beauty Liberated from Matter, created by Bistolfi for the funeral monument to Giovanni Segantini, who died suddenly at a young age. A work of symbolist taste, it is not lacking in references to Michelangelo's ‘unfinished’, almost as if the face were blossoming from the harshness of the mountain.
