Descrizione:
A netsuke depicting an actor balancing on one leg whilst performing a dance step. In his right hand he holds an open fan pointing downwards, and in his left a stick to which are attached several strips of white paper, rendered in ivory. He wears a Hyottoko mask, also made of ivory, recognisable both by having one eye open and one closed, and by the movement of his mouth, twisted into a lopsided grimace. On the back is the head of a Chinese lion, which also serves as an anchor for the cord that connected the netsuke to the inrō. The accessories suggest that the man can be identified as a street dancer specialising in shishimai.
