Mitchell Wolfson

Mitchell “Micky” Wolfson Jr. was born in 1939 in Miami, Florida. He served as diplomat in Washington and Turin before being transferred to Genoa.

In his lifetime mission of supporting and promoting scholarly research, preservation, education and the collection of decorative and propaganda arts of the period 1880-1945, he has collected a remarkable number of items of material culture. His ambitious project uses artifacts to reconstruct the atmosphere and history of the sixty years between the last decades of the nineteenth century and the end of World War II, a period that saw the mature development of Western industrial production, unprecedented technological progress, changes between dictatorships and democratic governments, two world wars, innovations in transportation and communication, and a new sense of time and space - in short, the birth of modernity.
