Descrizione:

After graduating from the conservatory in 1922, Menotti Salta (Perugia 1893 – Assisi 1972) moved to New York in 1927, where he was immediately hired by the Paramount Theatre and, a few years later, by the legendary Radio City Music Hall. During this period, he composed numerous symphonic works that made him famous in the United States. The symphony orchestra of the National Broadcasting Company periodically performed several of his compositions and performances of his works were also given in Europe. At the same time, he continued his work as a singing teacher and launched a number of renowned artists into the opera firmament. He remained in the United States until 1963, the year of his return to Italy.
In the background of the painting appear, on the left, the green hills of Umbria, Salta's and Dottori's native region, while on the right rise the skyscrapers of New York. The musician, wearing a black jersey and with a virile pose, represents the symbol of the Italian who successfully establishes himself beyond national borders. The painting depicts Menotti Salta, composer, pianist, singing teacher and conductor, a great friend of the painter Gerardo Dottori since childhood.
