Clocks

The collection of antique clocks is one of the most important of those preserved in an Italian public museum.

Of great value are, for example, some rare night clocks, notable among which are the monumental models created by the Roman manufacturer Giuseppe Campani in the second half of the seventeenth century and those of the Giovanni PietroCallin workshop, a watchmaker of Nordic origin active in Genoa in the seventeenth century, embellished with copper diales, painted with allegorical scenes, inlaid with hard stones, tortoise shell and rare woods.

There are also numerous, and exquisitely made, eighteenth-century clocks, including a series of inlaid or lacquered wooden mantel clocks, enriched with bronze decorations, made by Swiss workshops, alongside finely carved clocks of Genoese and French production.
