Portraits

A room, entirely dedicated to portraits of artists, displays a series of figures active in Academia as scholars or teachers, from the Accademia's foundation to the present day. The series allows us to grasp the transformation from the more formal and academic portraits of the late 18th century - Self Portrait by Antonietta Costa Galera, an amateur aristocratic painter - to the more informal, almost laid-back, portraits of the late 19th century - Francesco Gandolfi and Giuseppe Pennasilico – up until Raimondo Sirotti's intense Self Portrait from 2014.
