Armor with cuirass in anatomic niō-dō style
Japan, XVI -XIX century
AA11
polymateric
The helmet is of the momonari kabuto type (peach-shaped) and belongs to the broader category of kawari kabuto (extravagant helmets). The maedate, front decoration, has "u-shaped horns" simulating the horns of a ram.
The mask is of the me-no-shita-men type. The cuirass is in the niō-dō anatomical style with reference to the physicality of the Buddhist niō icons, two protective guardians of the Buddha.
The modern shoulder guards feature a construction of long, smooth iron and red leather plates, fully laced with ochre-yellow cords. The tassets of the skirt are made of red leather pseudo-plates held together by interlaced cords.
The greaves are decorated with beige hexagonal cells outlined in white fabric.
