Andrea Doria, the most beautiful Ship in the World

60 years after the T/n Andrea Doria shipwreck and for the first time in Italy, Mu.ma – Galata Museo del Mare and the Fondazione Ansaldo (Ansaldo Foundation) recreate, through an exhibition, a widely debated key event in the history of the Italian marine, concerning the responsibilities of the collision. Based on the analyses led by American experts, such as Carrothers and Meurne and on the documents and evidence collected by the “Fondo Ing. Francesco Scotto” stored at the Fondazione Ansaldo (Ansaldo Foundation), the exhibition deals entirely with the history of the awesome and unlucky ship. According to the true Galata style, it is intended to be a “Doria experience”: through the recreation of the settings of the ship, among which the prow in 1:5 scale and a part of the deck inclined at 30 degrees, visitors are invited to retrace the floors like the passengers and the crew did to escape the tragedy. The six-meter long model of the “Doria” is the “jewel” of the exhibition. All the aspects of the most beautiful ship in the world are told through eight sections.
