The Galata Maritime Museum, developed by Mu.MA,  Institution Museums of the Sea and Migrationis the most important maritime museum of the Mediterranean whose mission is to cover the history of navigation. A special section of the Museum is dedicated to the epic of the Italian migrants on board of steamships towards  North America, Brazil and Argentina;  another section illustrates  the recent immigration  to Italy .  Navigation on the sea but also under the sea includes  the exclusive visit to the submarine Nazario Sauro, the only floating museum in Italy. The emotion of a shipwreck at Cape Horn can be relived  in 4D in the Sala della Tempesta (Tempest Hall).

Important sections are the exposition dedicated to the liner “Andrea Doria, the most beautiful ship in the world” and to the tragedy of her collision and sinking , the exposition “ Sala degli Armatori “(Shipowners Hall) along the stairs of the 4th floor, that thanks to the Associazione Promotori Musei del Mare, tells the story of the Families that in the last century have made Genoa a great maritime city, through a captivating and technological advanced set-up.

Besides the renovated Tempest Hall , new achievements are the “galactic “ Hall , where since April visitors can admire a lighthouse 10 meter high, equipped with a Fresnel lens capable to light up the entire museum , 4 historical boats , a coffee shop and a restaurant that remind the conning tower of the submarine 518, berthed at the Darsena.

And again on the fourth floor the Sala Coeclerici hosting the collection “Navigare nell’arte”, “sailing in the art”, a selection of paintings of the Fondazione Paolo Clerici. From this section the visitor can reach the terrace and the roof garden, designed by the architect Consuegra, and have a spectacular view of the historic centre.
