The work, dominated by green tones in the foreground and background, depicts an open space with a vaguely metaphysical atmosphere: on the right and left, the landscape opens up towards the distant sea, while in the centre, part of a large sculpture dominates the scene. The small human figures receding into the background allow the viewer to better perceive the distance from the foreground. In the centre of the landscape is painted a fragment of a statue depicting two legs seen from behind, while on the right, the stone block depicts a head. The human figure barely visible to the right of the statue is probably an archaeologist.
