The plaster cast is an original, light-hearted interpretation of a usually serious ‘myth’, in which the young Columbus, sitting on a pier, gazes dreamily at the sea horizon, perhaps foreshadowing his great achievements. The statue, a plaster model for the sculpture located at Castello D'Albertis in Genoa, depicts Christopher Columbus as a young man holding a book while sitting on a pier. The pier features graffiti depicting a ship and the date MCCCCLX.
