Minerals

The mineralogical collections comprise around 25,000 specimens collected between the last 30 years of the 19th century and the present day. The Sala dei minerali [Minerals Room] was renovated in 2015 in order to do the collection justice and now includes around 400 specimens from all over the world, particularly the classic Italian regions of Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Marche, Liguria, Piedmont and Lombardy.  The Minerals Room features 16 display cases accompanied by information panels and a fluorescence exhibit complete with long- and shortwave UV lamps. The room is split into an educational section illustrating the crystallographic and chemical/physical properties of the minerals, a large section dedicated to mineralogical systematics, two sections on the mineralogy of Sardinia and Liguria, and – finally – a small geological section featuring a display of rocks from Liguria.
