Satin embroidered with polychrome silk and gold yarn
Il fascino del colore - Passione rosso e oro - Genova - 2009
Silk altar frontal. On a crimson satin background, there is a decoration divided into four sections embroidered in gold thread and multicoloured silk (satin stitch, split stitch and ‘or nué’). Each compositional module has two overlapping panels: a lower rectangular one with a classical amphora and flowering branches inscribed in a circular medallion decorated with scrolls and foliage. The medallion is surmounted by another vase with flowers and pomegranate fruits and flanked by two elegant acanthus racemes. The upper panel, about half the height of the first, contains another smaller, oval medallion with the monogram “IHL”. Each panel is enclosed in a frame with foliage and a multi-lobed motif at the corners. An additional frame, with the same motifs but taller, frames the entire composition.
