Ceramics

The Strada Nuova Museums’ ceramics collection is a vast and complex asset, comprising a major collection of Ligurian majolica, most of which is displayed in the Ceramics Rooms in Palazzo Doria Tursi, as well as artefacts of varying origin, displayed in rotation as part of temporary exhibitions and available to view on request: a collection of majolicas, porcelains and pottery of Italian and European manufacture, dated between the 16th and 19th century, and oriental porcelains of great importance, some of which are displayed along the visitor route in Palazzo Rosso. Also of great importance is the major collection of pharmaceutical vessels and instruments (around a thousand pieces), partially viewable in the Sale delle Antiche Farmacie in Palazzo Tursi. Besides these main groups there are others which are partially on display at the Museo di Sant’Agostino, such as a wall tiling collection largely consisting of 16th-century Spanish azulejo, a small group of Spanish gilded majolica and lastly, a major collection of medieval and 16th century medieval ceramic fragments from excavations in Genoa.
